Clan Wood is a Lowland Scottish clan from North Esk, Largo Bay and Angus in Scotland. The surname Wood originated from an old English term wudu used to describe a person who worked in the woods or forest.  The first mention of the Clan’s name is in the 12th century when Williemus de Bosco (which translates into Wood) was listed as chancellor of Scotland to King William the Lion.  The progenitor of the clan is considered to be Sir Andrew Wood of Largo.  Sir Andrew was born in the 15th century and was a direct descendant of Williemus de Bosco.  Andrew was granted lands in Largo by James III of Scotland after he protected Scotland’s interests in several naval battles.
Largo Castle which was to the north of Lower Largo in Fife was the main castle connected with the Clan Wood. The castle dated from the fifteenth century, but it was replaced by Largo House which was started in about 1750. The only remains of the original castle are a single round tower with a conical roof. The castle was held by the infamous Andrew Wood of the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries.
Each item begins as a piece of bronze sheet metal.  After a pattern is transferred to the metal, the piece is etched in a salt-water solution.  Each piece is hand cut, sanded, and polished. The pin back is soldered on. A patina has been applied giving the metal that aged look. A clear polymer coating is applied to the face of the badge.
